Blogging is one of the most effective ways to promote your business or organization. Thousands after thousands of companies are seeing increased customers and therefore, revenues, because of blogging. Through this platform, your business can potentially reach millions of people. It is simple, practical, and cost-effective.
Blogging itself is a good way of making money. You can do that through Google Ads, affiliate marketing, and many other ways.
Through the years, however, blogging is becoming more and more competitive. Almost in every niches or industry, there are existing blogs already. So, how do you then stand out? The best answer to that is what we call Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Putting SEO in the Layman’s Context
Simply put, SEO is the process of implementing best practices and tools. The immediate goal is to increase the number of readers and subscribers to your blog/website. In that way, you can also increase the number of conversions or sales made. And that means more income and more repeat orders.
Let’s say you have a travel blog, and through this, you would like to sell travel gears and bags. You also have affiliate links within your site. To drive organic traffic, you need to rank high on Google for the keywords you are associated with. Again, you need to apply SEO to achieve that.
Now, SEO can be a bit technical and challenging if you are starting. I too struggled with how I can go about it when I was beginning to optimize my blog. Fortunately, there are tons of helpful, practical, and easy-to-read materials online to help you start with SEO. Even better, there are a lot of free tools you can utilize. And yes, there are countless SEO Blogs out there!
Without further ado, I will be sharing with you some of the best practices you need to boost the SEO of your blog. Take note. I have personally applied and learned these practices. Because of these, my blog has seen a steep increase in organic traffic. That is why I suddenly generated a lot of earnings from Google AdSense. The interesting part? I did all these in just four months for free! And my organic traffic keeps on increasing. If I can do all these, you can do so as well.
Put Keyword on Title and Headings
If you want to rank for a term on Google, you need to place them on your Title and Headings. The title has the most bearing when crawled by Google. That is why you need to make sure that your keyword or keywords are reflected. As much as possible, place the keyword at the beginning of the title. For example. If the keyword you want to rank for is Search Engine Optimization, then do place it first on the title. Let’s say, “Search Engine Optimization: Your Simple and Practical Guide.”
You also need to place your keyword on the headings but not on all of them. Don’t commit the mistake of overoptimizing your headings for that will hurt your ranking. Just put the right balance.
Make your article/post-Reader-Friendly
To sustain interest and generate conversion, you need to make sure that you are writing reader-friendly articles. That’s also one way for you to encourage subscription to your site. You see, if you write for the sake of writing, you are in big trouble. Readers won’t bother finishing your article and when Google notices that, you’ll not be able to rank high.
So how do you make your posts or articles appeal to readers?
Well, write it in their language. I don’t mean this in the literal sense. What I’m saying is that your article should reflect your reader’s interests, needs, wants, issues, and stories. In that way, they will see your article as something that will give value to them. Something that will help them solve their problem. Your article should be about them, not you. In short, put your readers at the heart of your content.
Of course, you also need to apply the necessary technicalities, such as making use of active voices, shortened paragraphs, and easy-to-understand words.
Increase your Blog’s Speed
The speed of your blog is an important consideration not just by Google but users too.
It’s a simple concept. If a user goes to your site and finds it too long to load, then he/she would go to another location with faster loading speed. Google also notices that. So, if you want to maintain a high ranking, make sure to optimize your speed.
So how do you do that?
First, remove unnecessary plugins or add-ons. The more plugins your blog has, the slower it is to load. That is why you should only install plugins which your blog needs. For instance, if social media plugins no longer apply, then uninstall them. The lighter your blog is, the faster it will load.
Second, compress and optimize your images. If you upload high-quality or high-definition photos, your blog will undoubtedly slow down. It will also take a longer time for your post or article to load. Again, that will affect your users’ experience, and upon detecting that, Google will lower your ranking. Even worse, you won’t rank at all.
So, make sure to optimize your images at the standard level. There are software and online tools you can use to do this.
Make use of Internal and External Links
You cannot rank high on Google with links, both internal and external. Links are relevant because they show your pages’ relevance to one another. They also show hierarchy and authority. Without links, Google will find it hard to crawl your site.
It is also essential to link with authority websites, especially when you are just starting. Aside from giving your readers more value, external linking will help to boost your online visibility. The more connected you are to other sites, the higher your blog’s chance to gain backlinks. Now, if you have a lot of backlinks coming in, you can be sure that you will rank to the top in due time.
So, that’s it! These are just some of the most common techniques you may apply to boost your blog’s ranking on search engines. If you need more detailed information, there are countless seo blogs out online. Even numerous print books have topics on SEO.
Point is. You will never run out of sources to learn from when we talk about SEO.
Just start applying them one by one. And gradually, you will see your pages/posts ranking well on Google.
